Film poster

We have based my film poster on this image as it is in keeping with the swede my group and I have created. Our swede is about the 'Exorcism of Emily Akbar' and this image portrays an image of an exorcism based movie well and clearly. Although my image is of an eye, it is still a haunting image that makes it clear to the audience that our movie is a horror.

The Production Progress In Media

The production process refers to the stages/phases needed in order to complete a media product, from the idea to the final master copy. The process can apply to any type of media production including film, video, television and audio recording. The stages in each stage can vary; for example, there is never a story board in an audio recording. However the same general concepts work for any medium.

1. Pre-production

Planning, scripting and story boarding etc.
  • The first part of production is when all the planning takes places for the project, whether that be filming etc. The pre-production is split into separate scenes. The props, cast members, special effects, locations, costumes and visual effects are identified (e.g.chosen by workers) . A precise schedule is produced and arrangements are made for the necessary objectives and the cast to be available to the film-makers when needed.
    2. Production

    The actual shooting/recording

This is the process where by the real life imagery (storyboard) is brought to life through filming, and the acting/documentations are recorded.

    3. Post-production

Everything between production and creating the final master copy.

This includes video editing, writing, adding special effects, sound design.

    Distributing And Marketing

    Distributing

The way in which films are distributed varies. For example big companies such as 'Columbia' find it easier to distribute their films than independent filmmakers. Big companies distribute their films by leasing out their film, the distribute then agrees on a fixed price for rights to distribute the film.
The backing of a major distributor or a well known director or star can greatly improve the chances of securing a great distribution deal. Therefore advertising becomes easier and this leads to the release of DVDs, TVs etc.

    Marketing

Film companies market their films in many different ways, in most cases it is through advertising/trailors

Trailers give viewers a real insight into movies, they are filled with thrills, action and sometimes danger. This gets viewers wanting to watch the full movie, and this is how film companies make their money, through advertising.
Also film companies advertise through magazines, newspapers, the internet etc.

    Exhibition

Exhibition is how the audience get to see the film. There are different mediums available to go and see a film. for example; through cinema screenings. Not all films are screened in cinemas however, some a screened at film festivals (independent screen festivals tend to screen at festivals)

Production-  At this stage everything needed for the film is planned and designed. There are three stages in production, pre-production, production and post-production. Pre- production is the stage in which all the planning for the project takes place. During pre-production, the production is broken down into individual scenes and all the locations, props, cast members, costumes, special effects and visual effects are identified. The script, if not already complete, is written at this stage. Production the stage at which all the filming is carried out. All scenes planned out in pre-production are filmed at the relevant locations. Each scene is filmed as many times as the director deems fit, to ensure the best quality scenes will be used to construct the film. This is where the strength of the pre-production work is put to the test. Post production This is the stage in which the film is assembled by the editor. The first job of the film editor is to build a rough cut taken from sequences (or scenes) based on individual "takes" (shots). The purpose of the rough cut is to select and order the best shots. The next step is to create a fine cut by getting all the shots to flow smoothly in a seamless story.

Distribution - In terms of shorts, a distributor is an individual who will represent your film at festivals and markets around the world and who will attempt to sell it to television.

Marketing – marketing is when the film is fully done and released promotion and advertisement are then made for the film. Examples of this are trailers, Billboards. Magazines, newspapers, social networking sites, blogs, toys, ect

Exhibition - Cinemas fall into 1 of 2 categories: national chains; and independent exhibitors. The specific programming will depend on the target audience, with large chains often filling their multiplexes with blockbuster fare and individual independents more likely to cater to art-house crowds.

Film industry homework

In the production of the film the first part of the film would be to think up the idea of the film, a producer will choose what the film will be based on and the underlined message of the film, along with writers a producer will write up a sum up of the film. they then would need to prepare a treatment this often has little directions for what people would actually do on screen, but instead has some visual representations to help show the plot.

in pre-production a production company and office are established, a film may be set up in a storyboard to help visualise what the film would be like, and a budget is drawn up to give the producer and directors a guideline on how much they can spend on the film. a producer will hire a crew dependant on how much money they have in the budget decides how good the crew an be.

in production the film is created and shot, in this stage more crew may also be hired roles made dependant on what needs to be filled in the crew. in this role lots of shots are taken to ensure they have different angles which they can use in the film. after this the shots they have taken will be edited so they blend together well, and if changes to sound need to be made it will also be done here this is known as post production.

in distribution the film is released to the audience, at first there may be advertising such as trailers or poster to first bring in the audience, the size and budget of the film may decide how much advertising there is as a bigger movie may have more. after this copies are made of the film dependant on how many different ways they will distribute it, for example a film going straight to online or cinema will need less copies than one going to DVD. films can go onto many different types of platforms the main ones are cinema, dvd and online. these platforms also contribute to the exhibition of the film as this is where the audience will be able to view the film. some larger movies may also have box office opening where actors in the films, the crew and some fans can come and watch and promote the film. today people seem to interact with movies online as this is easier for most and normally cheaper.
