The Production Progress In Media

The production process refers to the stages/phases needed in order to complete a media product, from the idea to the final master copy. The process can apply to any type of media production including film, video, television and audio recording. The stages in each stage can vary; for example, there is never a story board in an audio recording. However the same general concepts work for any medium.

1. Pre-production

Planning, scripting and story boarding etc.
  • The first part of production is when all the planning takes places for the project, whether that be filming etc. The pre-production is split into separate scenes. The props, cast members, special effects, locations, costumes and visual effects are identified (e.g.chosen by workers) . A precise schedule is produced and arrangements are made for the necessary objectives and the cast to be available to the film-makers when needed.
    2. Production

    The actual shooting/recording

This is the process where by the real life imagery (storyboard) is brought to life through filming, and the acting/documentations are recorded.

    3. Post-production

Everything between production and creating the final master copy.

This includes video editing, writing, adding special effects, sound design.

    Distributing And Marketing

    Distributing

The way in which films are distributed varies. For example big companies such as 'Columbia' find it easier to distribute their films than independent filmmakers. Big companies distribute their films by leasing out their film, the distribute then agrees on a fixed price for rights to distribute the film.
The backing of a major distributor or a well known director or star can greatly improve the chances of securing a great distribution deal. Therefore advertising becomes easier and this leads to the release of DVDs, TVs etc.

    Marketing

Film companies market their films in many different ways, in most cases it is through advertising/trailors

Trailers give viewers a real insight into movies, they are filled with thrills, action and sometimes danger. This gets viewers wanting to watch the full movie, and this is how film companies make their money, through advertising.
Also film companies advertise through magazines, newspapers, the internet etc.

    Exhibition

Exhibition is how the audience get to see the film. There are different mediums available to go and see a film. for example; through cinema screenings. Not all films are screened in cinemas however, some a screened at film festivals (independent screen festivals tend to screen at festivals)
